Every donation counts! Please donate through our association and state "winter clothing" in the intended purpose. We will ensure that your donation goes directly to where it is needed.

About Us

We are the non-profit organization NETINA. NETINA stands for the Hebrew word "helping and giving with all your heart".

We organize missions for volunteer participants who use their vacation days and their own financial resources to travel to Israel 1-2 times a year for about 8-10 days in order to realize craft aid projects for Holocaust survivors and those in social need with the support of local partners such as the community and associations.

We achieve our charitable purposes through:

  • promoting voluntary, unpaid assistance, craft activities for survivors of the Holocaust, their descendants and for those in social need in Israel and Germany
  • promoting peaceful coexistence between different ethnic groups, between Christians and Jews, and non-religious people who live in Israel and are connected to the country and the people of Israel
  • encounter trips to Israel and the associated promotion of religions and international attitudes, tolerance in all areas of culture and the idea of international understanding
  • promoting cooperation with other charitable, non-profit organizations from Israel and Germany that recognize, actively support or promote the purpose of the association
Our current project

We envisage having two small teams with 3-4 participants each. Due to the current situation in Israel, we cannot give a specific time period for the deployment. We reassess the situation daily. As soon as we can roughly determine a time period with our friends on site, we will publish it here and inform all helpers who have registered with us by then.

Period

May 12th - May 22nd, 2025

The deployment should take place during this period. Everyone can decide for themselves how many days they want to deploy, but it should be at least 6 days (2 days are needed for the arrival and departure alone). The arrival and departure to/from Ma’alot from/to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv will be organized.

Contact options and questions

Registration takes place directly with Frank or via the contact form.

Number of participants

At least 6, maximum 10 participants.

You should be prepared for daytime temperatures of up to 30 degrees. You should feel healthy and energetic in order to be able to cope well with the work ahead and the climatic conditions in the country. Strong manual skills would be an advantage, but are not absolutely necessary. Every helping hand is needed.

Deployment Locations

Naharija, Ma'alot

Activities

See photos (here).

In the meeting place for Holocaust survivors and socially needy people in Ma’alot

  • Minor plastering work on doors and windows
  • Filling work
  • Painting walls
  • Painting windows

Please bring appropriate work clothes!

Minor repair work (shower areas, small roof repairs) in the RegBa nursing home (near Naharijah)

Accommodation

... is provided.

We will endeavour to ensure that each participant or couple receives their own room.

Arrival and departure

At your own expense (see list of costs below) from your home airport to Tel Aviv Airport and back. From the airport in Tel Aviv, you will continue your journey by rental car (provided by the club). Of course, everyone can also travel to or from Tel Aviv Airport to Ma’alot by bus/train. In this case, we recommend traveling to or from Naharijah or Akko. You will be picked up or dropped off from there. If you would like more information about public transport in Israel, please ask.

Free time

There is no work on Shabbat. The group decides for itself how to spend this free day. The main focus is of course to get to know the country and the people.

Of course we can also organize short trips to the surrounding area after work. The Mediterranean Sea in the immediate vicinity (about 20 km from Ma'alot) is ideal for spending relaxing hours on the beach. We were often invited to have dinner together in the evenings during previous assignments.

Weather

The following average values can be expected:

  • April: 13-22 degrees C, 3 days of rain
  • May: 17-27 degrees C, 1 day of rain
  • June: 20-31 degrees C, 0 days of rain

Costs

We can only give a general overview here for orientation purposes.

  • Flight costs (including luggage) between EUR 500 - EUR 800 (the later you book, the more expensive). It is recommended to fly with EL Al or Israir. These Israeli airlines have flown from Germany to Israel and back without restriction over the last two years. Cancellations have mainly been made by foreign airlines.
  • Accommodation costs can be between EUR 35 and EUR 50 per day (depending on the number of participants). We are trying to provide free accommodation through our helpers on site.
  • Costs for the rental car (van) are covered by the association NETINA e.V.
  • Costs for food are between EUR 20 and EUR 30 per day and can be higher depending on individual needs for food/drink.
  • Other costs can be incurred for telephone, bus/train.
  • Assuming that all costs (except for the rental car) must be borne by the participants themselves, based on previous experience and taking into account the duration of the assignment, price developments between EUR 1,200 and EUR 1,600 can be incurred.

Example:
Flight costs including luggage (from/to BER) currently: EUR 500
Accommodation for 10 nights at EUR 35 per day: EUR 350
Food costs per day EUR 20 for 10 days: EUR 200
other costs per day EUR 15 x 10 days: EUR 150
Total: EUR 1,200

Donations & Collaboration

Anyone who identifies with our goals is welcome to help us realize our projects. Every bit of help, no matter how small, is valuable and benefits those we want to support.

We therefore need helpers who can design our presence on social media portals and keep us up to date. We are looking for interested people who want to help organize, help shape and participate in our missions in Israel. Anyone who brings our values and goals to a wide variety of events, to their community and to their social environment is very welcome.

And of course, an association lives from donations, contributions and its members. However, being a member of the association is not a requirement to live up to the Hebrew word "NETINA" - helping and giving - through your own actions.
